About Mouth Tape

New to mouth taping? Start here. These cover what mouth tape is, how it works, and whether it's right for you.
  • Mouth tape is a small adhesive strip you wear over your closed lips at night. It keeps your mouth shut so you breathe through your nose while sleeping.

That's it. It's a physical reminder, not a medical device. The benefits — quieter sleep, less dry mouth, better airflow — all come from one thing: nasal breathing instead of mouth breathing.

  • Your nose is built for breathing in a way your mouth isn't. It filters airborne particles, adds humidity to the air, and helps your body absorb oxygen more efficiently. Nasal breathing also triggers nitric oxide production, which supports better circulation.

Mouth breathing during sleep dries out your throat, contributes to snoring, and leaves you with that "cotton mouth" feeling in the morning. For deeper reading, see our complete guide to nasal breathing.

  • For light to moderate snoring caused by mouth breathing — yes, in most cases. Most users notice a difference within the first week.

But mouth tape doesn't fix every type of snoring. If your snoring is caused by sleep apnea, nasal blockage, a deviated septum, or anatomical issues, mouth tape alone won't solve it. In those cases, see a doctor first.

  • Nasal breathing has been studied for decades, and mouth taping as a practice has been used in sleep clinics, by athletes, and in functional breathing programs for years. The recent surge in popularity comes from books like Breath by James Nestor, but the underlying science isn't new.

What is new is purpose-designed mouth tape — most early users simply used surgical tape, which is harsher on skin.

  • Not directly. Mouth tape doesn't have a sedative effect — it works during sleep, not before. Many users do report falling asleep more easily over time, but that's likely a downstream effect of better-quality sleep, not the tape itself.

Product Details

Specifics about what Suzram is made of, how it differs, and what you'll get when you order.
  • A soft rayon backing with a low-tack, hypoallergenic medical-grade adhesive. The rayon is breathable, flexible, and gentle on skin — it moves with you as you turn over during the night.

We use rayon (not silk, despite what some marketing suggests across the industry) because it performs better for nightly use and is more skin-friendly.

  • Three different cuts for the same material:

    • Classic Strip — horizontal cut with a small breathing gap in the center. Easiest for first-timers.

    • Full Cover — oval patch that fully seals the mouth. Strongest hold for heavier snorers.

    • Mouth Shape — lip-contoured cut that follows your natural lip line. Nearly invisible.

All three use the same adhesive and backing. The choice is preference, not effectiveness.

  • • 1-Month Supply: 30 tapes

    • 3-Month Supply: 90 tapes

    • Subscribe & Save options available for both

One tape per night. We don't recommend reusing them — the adhesive is designed for single-use to maintain hygiene and consistent hold.

  • About $0.80 per night for the 1-Month Supply, less if you subscribe. For comparison, most other brands run $1.00 to $1.50 per night.

  • Yes. Every order includes a slim travel case sized to fit in any toiletry bag. It keeps the tapes clean whether you're at home or traveling.

  • Currently Suzram tape is available in a single neutral tone designed to blend with most skin colors. We're evaluating additional options based on customer feedback — let us know if there's a specific color you'd like to see.

Safety & Health

The questions that matter most. Read these carefully — mouth taping isn't right for everyone, and we'd rather you skip our product than use it unsafely.
  • For healthy adults who can breathe comfortably through their nose while awake, yes. Suzram uses hypoallergenic medical-grade adhesive that's been dermatologically tested.

However, mouth taping is not safe for everyone. See Q3.2 for who should avoid it.

  • Skip mouth tape if any of these apply to you:

    • You have sleep apnea (use your CPAP first; consult your doctor before adding mouth tape)

    • You have chronic nasal congestion or a deviated septum

    • You can't breathe comfortably through your nose while awake

    • You've consumed alcohol or sedatives that night

    • You have an active sinus infection or cold

    • You're under 18

    • You have GERD or acid reflux that worsens at night

If you're unsure, talk to your doctor before trying.

  • No. Mouth tape doesn't seal your airway — your nose remains fully open, and you can talk, cough, or remove the tape at any time. The Classic Strip cut also has a built-in breathing gap.

If you panic-wake and need it off, you can remove it in seconds. Many users naturally peel it off during early adjustment nights — that's normal and safe.

  • Suzram's adhesive is designed to minimize irritation, but reactions still happen — everyone's skin is different. If you have a history of adhesive sensitivities (e.g., reactions to bandages or surgical tape), test a small piece on your inner forearm for a few hours before using it on your face overnight.

If you do experience redness, itching, or a rash, stop use immediately. Most reactions resolve within 24-48 hours.

  • Suzram works with most facial hair. The adhesive holds well on stubble and trimmed beards. For longer or thicker beards, the Full Cover option provides better contact area.

Removal is gentle — peel slowly from one corner. Dampening the edge with water can help reduce any pulling on hair.

  • Most prescription medications are fine to take alongside mouth tape, with two exceptions:

    • Sedatives or sleep medications: avoid mouth tape — your awareness is reduced, which is unsafe

    • Medications causing nasal congestion: skip mouth tape on those nights

If you take medication that affects breathing or alertness, consult your doctor.

  • We don't recommend mouth tape during pregnancy without first consulting your healthcare provider. Pregnancy can cause nasal congestion (pregnancy rhinitis), changes in breathing patterns, and other factors that make mouth taping inappropriate for some pregnant individuals.

How to Use

Practical guidance for nights one through thirty and beyond.
    1. Wash and dry your lips and the skin around them. Skip lip balm or facial oils — adhesive won't stick.
    2. Peel the tape from the sheet.
    3. Center it horizontally over your closed lips (Classic Strip), or position over your full mouth area (Full Cover or Mouth Shape).
    4. Press gently for a few seconds to seal.

That's it. Total application time: under 30 seconds.

  • Peel slowly from one corner, parallel to your skin (not straight up). If it feels tight, dampen the edge with a wet fingertip first — this loosens the adhesive instantly.

The whole process should take 5-10 seconds. There should be no residue, sting, or pulling. If there is, you may have applied it to skin that wasn't fully dry.

  • Not at all. During the first week, many users naturally peel the tape off in their sleep as their body adjusts. This is your subconscious response, not a malfunction.

If it keeps happening after 7-10 nights, try the Full Cover option for stronger hold, or contact us — we'll help troubleshoot.

  • One full sleep cycle — 7 to 9 hours for most users. The adhesive is designed to remain secure overnight and release cleanly in the morning.

  • No. Suzram tapes are designed for single-use. The adhesive degrades after one application, and reusing them risks bacteria buildup and inconsistent hold. Use a fresh tape each night.

  • Try this:

    1. First, wear the tape for 5-10 minutes while awake (watching TV, reading) to get used to the sensation.
    2. The first night, apply it just before bed and accept that you might remove it during sleep.
    3. Give yourself 5-7 nights of consistency. The adjustment is real but short.

Most users report they stop noticing the tape entirely by night 4 or 5.

  • Absolutely — mouth tape is one of the simplest sleep aids for travel. Many users specifically use it on long-haul flights to avoid waking with severe dry mouth.

Pack the storage case in your carry-on. TSA has no restrictions on adhesive bandages.
